Wireline drilling is the EPTT method of getting rid of the core. When the driller wants to eliminate core from a conventional core drill, the total core barrel has to be taken off from the hole. This is time-consuming, as each rod has to be taken off 1 at a time. With wireline drilling, a barrel of core can be taken out from the base of the hole with out removing the rod string. When the driller needs to take away the main, an overshot is decreased on the stop of a wireline. The overshot attaches to the again of the main barrel interior tube and the wireline is pulled back and the internal tube disengages by itself from the barrel.
